14In the word parallelepiped, the stress should fall on the antepenult. The word used to be spelled parallelepipedon, which was a direct transliteration of the Greek parallhlep pedon. This is compounded of par llhl- parallel and p pedon plane surface. The latter Greek word is in turn compounded of p on and p don ground. Thus, unlike the vowel O in parallelogram, the second E in parallelepiped(on) is not just a linking vowel. There is no mathematical object called a piped.
