14In the word parallelepiped, the stress should fall on the antepenult. The word used to be spelled parallelepipedon, which was a direct transliteration of the Greek parallhleppedon. This is compounded of parllhl- parallel and ppedon plane surface. The latter Greek word is in turn compounded of p on and pdon ground. Thus, unlike the vowel O in parallelogram, the second E in parallelepiped(on) is not just a linking vowel. There is no mathematical object called a piped.
