An Afternoon with Group Theory

On Saturday, January 25, 2020, three talks in group theory for undergraduate and graduate students will be given in the mathematics department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
Experience with an undergraduate course in group theory or abstract algebra will be assumed. The aim is to introduce topics not normally seen in undergraduate courses.

25 Ocak Cumartesi günü Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi Matematik Bölümünde lisans ve lisansüstü öğrencilere yönelik üç grup teori konuşması yapılacaktır.
Konuşmalar lisans düzeyinde en az bir grup teori veya soyut cebir dersi almış öğrencilerin takip edebileceği şekilde planlanmıştır. Dizinin amacı, öğrencilere grup teorinin lisans derslerinde genellikle yapılamayan yönlerini tanıtmak ve bu konularda daha ileri çalışmalar yapmaları için öğrencilerde merak uyandırmaktır.

The vase below was made from a single piece of sandstone in Ancient Egypt 4,000 years ago. The lecture will explain, among other things, the mathematics behind its almost perfect spherical shape.
